How to Use the Glass in Padel

One of the biggest differences between padel and tennis is the glass. Learning when to let the ball rebound — rather than rushing to hit it before it reaches the wall — can give you more time, better court position and greater control.

Why the Glass Is Important

In padel, the ball can rebound from the back and side glass after it bounces on the court. Instead of rushing every shot, learning to use the glass can give you extra time, better positioning and more controlled returns.Read the Bounce Before You React

Watch the speed, height and angle of the incoming ball. Give yourself room, let the ball reach the glass when appropriate, then move into position to play the rebound.

A Common Mistake

Trying to hit every ball before it reaches the back glass often leads to rushed timing, weaker shots, unforced errors and poor court position.

Use the Glass to Stay in Control

Stay calm, create space and let the rebound do some of the work. The glass is not something to avoid — used well, it becomes an important part of your defence and transition into attack.
